Sanofi-Aventis Needed Quality Recruitment and Personnel Development Tools

Sanofi-Aventis was established in 2004 following the merger of Aventis and Sanofi-Synthelabo. Currently, the company has a presence in more than one hundred countries across five continents and employs over 100,000 people. Hudson Services

In 2006, the newly appointed Country Manager of the company wanted to build a strong sales and marketing management team. Hudson secured the project and recommended an approach combining quality recruitment and personnel development tools to create the leadership group. During the early stages of the project, we identified motivation problems with their current employees and dissatisfaction with particular managers’ performance. Hudson consultants quickly created an action plan, designed to solve the key areas of concern from two different approaches.

RECRUITMENT: In light of the rapidly shifting pharmaceutical market conditions in Ukraine, the search for quality and high potential people intensified. Hudson presented a number of candidates to Sanofi-Aventis, several of which were top-tier, highly experienced specialists. In addition to assessing and evaluating external candidates, Sanofi-Aventis also requested Hudson’s professional assistance in the assessment of a number of internal candidates.

To maximize results, Hudson conducted two Assessment Centers for the Marketing Manager and Sales Manager positions. During the course of the project, Hudson also filled the position of Business Unit Manager, a role not initially on the client’s requirements list. The candidate performed so well in the Assessment Center that Sanofi-Aventis decided to make an unplanned offer.

TALENT MANAGEMENT: Hudson offered a wide array of Talent Management services ranging from an Employee Satisfaction Audit to Personnel Development Plans. From the onset, our consultants were driven to discover the satisfaction level of employees in the company. Our Talent Management team created a successfully tested pilot survey and followed up with an Employee Satisfaction Survey for 111 participants (out of 156 employees).

To fully understand employees’ needs and current expectations from Sanofi-Aventis, our consultants also investigated employee motivation. The survey provided extremely revealing results in employees’ commitment. It gave a new perspective and dimension on the internal dynamics of the company, which led to organizational changes. It also allowed our consultants to take a fresh look at Sanofi-Aventis’ HR issues. We were able to help the company set the right priorities into their HR policies, leading to positive developments over time.

Beginning in 2007, Hudson Ukraine commenced a series of Assessment Centers for Middle Management with the goal of defining and creating individual development plans for the company’s “stars”. A total of 20-25 managers from the Sales Division took part in the Assessment Centers. Sanofi-Aventis benefited from creating a pool of successors and now develops carefully tailored training programmers for its rising potential.
